Tuesday, July 8, 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.: Tuesdays at Cabernet, monthly open mic poetry and prose reading series hosted by Sinead Tyrone. Cabernet's Wine Café , 9 N. Ellicott St., Williamsville.
Tuesday, July 8, 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.: Tuesday Night Open Mic Series at the Em Tea Coffeecup Café. All are welcome whether new to poetry or a long-time member of the community. 80 Oakgrove Ave., Buffalo, NY. Free and open to the public.
Wednesday, July 9, 9 p.m.: Poetry Night at Caffe Aroma, biweekly open mic reading series hosted by Ben Brindise and Justin Karcher. 957 Elmwood Ave., Buffalo. Free and open to the public.
Thursday, July 10, 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.: Drawing Support for Local Journalism: The Buffalo Newspaper Guild Hosts the Closing of Adam Zyglis’ Ink & Insight at the Buffalo History Museum. Join and mingle with the hard-working journalists of the Buffalo Newspaper Guild as they celebrate the closing of Zyglis' exhibition of 20 years of cartoons and launch the Guild’s Support Local Journalism Community Campaign. Thursday, July 10, 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.: Buffalo Reading Invasion—a flash mob-like gathering to celebrate the role of books, reading, public space, and community in our lives. Bring a book, a chair, and several friends or family members for an hour of quiet reading in one of Buffalo’s best-loved public spaces. Friday, July 11, 7 p.m.: Ground & Sky Poetry open Mic in Bidwell Parkway, hosted by Joel Lesses. This months location: Between Elmwood Ave. and Potomac Ave., Buffalo. Free and open to the public.
Saturday, July 12, 7:30 p.m.: Talking leaves Books presents an evening with Auston Habershaw in conversation with Edward Ashton celebrating the launch of Habershaw's new book, If Wishes Were Retail.
Auston Habershaw has worked as a lifeguard, barista, waiter, QA tester, dog walker, hotel bellhop, pedicab driver, SAT tutor, office drone, and several other random jobs. He now is a science fiction and fantasy author, writing about the could-be and never-was, and also teaches composition and literature at MCPHS University in Boston, MA.
Edward Ashton (he/him) is the author of the novels Three Days in April, The End of Ordinary, and Mickey7, as well as of short stories which have appeared in venues ranging from the newsletter of an Italian sausage company to Escape Pod, Analog, and Fireside Fiction. He lives in upstate New York in a cabin in the woods with his wife, daughters, and dog named Max. In his free time, he enjoys cancer research, teaching quantum physics to sullen graduate students, and whittling.
