Buffalo Area Poetry & Literature Calendar (week of April 7-April 14)
Tuesday, 6 p.m.: The University of Buffalo Humanities Institute, UB Poetics Program and the UB Comparative Literature Department present a reading featuring poets Azad Ashim Sharma and Rhoni Blankenhorn.
Azad Ashim Sharma is a writer and publisher based in South London. He is the director of the87press. His work includes Against the Frame (Broken Sleep Books, 2022), Ergastulum (Broken Sleep Books, 2022), and his latest collection of poems Boiled Owls (Nightboat Books, 2024). His work has featured in publications such as the Asian American Writers Workshop, Stand Magazine, Gutter Magazine, the journal Social and Health Sciences, SPAMzine, MIR Online, and Wasafiri. He is a Chase-funded PhD Candidate in English and Humanities at Birkbeck College, University of London.
Rhoni Blankenhorn is a Filipina American writer and translator. Her words can be found or are forthcoming in Narrative, Air/Light Magazine, RHINO, Pigeon Pages, Girl Blood Info, Hyperallergic, and elsewhere. She has received support from the Sewanee Writers’ Conference, The Center for Book Arts NYC, and Poets & Writers. Rhoni is a Creative Writing Teaching Fellow at Columbia University, a member of the School for New Art Geographies in Tucson, and Poetry Co-Editor at the Brazenhead Review.

Friday, 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.: Elm Leaves Journal, Buffalo State University’s annual literary publication edited by Buffalo State associate professor of English Kim Chinquee, will release its Eclipse Edition, a collection of writing to commemorate the once-in-a-lifetime total solar eclipse, with a free public launch on Friday, April 12, from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. in the Campbell Student Union. The event will include food, drinks, and readings and presentations from featured writer T. L. Sherwood, students, and alumni.
